Braddock’s Additives

Introduction
Archie Braddock spent years perfecting these spice blends and anyone knowing Archie will know ‘second best’ or ‘almost right’ simply isn’t good enough! It was Archie’s intention to produce fish feeding stimulants but to take it a stage further than most and actually trigger certain species of fish.

I have lived close to Archie all my life and for the 25 years I worked at Walkers of Trowell fishing tackle shop I enjoyed his enthusiastic banter. Never content with ‘this is good’ when Archie thought he was onto something special he would experiment and then experiment more to make sure he had got something as good as he possibly could.
When Archie first released his bait range we had absolutely no hesitation in stocking them at the shop and the feedback we used to get from our customers using the products was nothing short of amazing!

I now know after keeping in touch with Archie that his Braddock’s Baits grew at a ridiculous rate and from releasing them as a bit of a hobby he soon became totally swamped with orders and soon had to call in help with the mixing and packing just to keep up with demand.

After a manic and totally full life in the Entertainment Business Archie decided the time had come to retire and enjoy some of the fruits of his labour. Sadly Archie Braddock’s Baits were finished at the same time whilst in total full swing. I was still working at Walker’s at the time and some of our customers were totally devastated that they could no longer get certain products.
The years skipped by, Archie continued with his fishing and I am sure delighting in his bank of telephones no longer ringing all through the day and night. I had left Walkers and had set up Quest Baits then a chance conversation with Archie got my brain ticking over.

To cut what wasn’t a particularly long story very short Archie agreed to me re-producing four of his original spice blends. I have been a keen user of spices in my baits for years. In fact our largest selling boilie is Rahja Spice which contains one of my special spice blends and I was really intrigued what Archie had ended up blending together to formulate his baits.
When I eventually got my hands on his recipe book I must admit to being quite astounded as to how complex each blend was. From expecting a list of five or six spices I was confronted by long lists of both powders and liquids as well as precise blending instructions.

It took me a while to source some of the ingredients and I was truly like a kid in a sweet shop for the first time each time a new parcel arrived on my desk. Some of the spices I had never seen before and the battering my nose got on occasions from sniffing a little too enthusiastically on some rather ‘hot’ ingredients soon had me holding back on future sample sniffing!
I am really proud to announce that we are now able to offer you the original Supaspice, Mega Spicy, Xotic Spice and Mega Carp. Four classic spice combinations which each have an amazing track record – you don’t think I would have talked Archie into letting us loose with anything but the best do you?

So, how do you make the most of these powdered Spice Blends?
Summer: Add 9 heaped teaspoons to 1kilo of any groundbait, whether it be a continental mix, just plain crumb or even peat or leam. Mix it in well before adding water.

Winter: The levels used can be anywhere up to double the summer level.
The colder the water the thicker it is thus the attractive leak out of the bait is reduced. Remember you are using these powders to stimulate the fish into feeding you aren’t actually feeding the fish with them.

Boilie Inclusion: 2oz (55grm) of Supaspice per 14oz (400grm) of base mix.

Supaspice
Originally designed with Roach in mind and it certainly has proven itself over the years on everywhere imaginable from rivers to enormous windblown reservoirs.

Having said that other species are triggered by Supaspice too notably perch, tench and chub. It is impossible to make additives which are only attractive to one species of fish but if roach and perch are in your swim then the Roach will be triggered into feeding first.

Try using 2oz (55grm) of Supaspice per 14oz (400grm) of boilie base mix as a paste or a boilie – River Trent Chub love it!

Xotic Spice
Specifically aimed at Perch – they love it! But again other species will be triggered by it notably roach, bream and barbel.
Keith Arthur of Sky TV’s Tight Lines fame, as well as general Mr nice guy in the angling trade, drew the same swim on the Regents canal in two consecutive matches. As the peg was known for roach he used Supaspice on week one and framed with Roach. On week two he tried Xotic Spice and framed with Perch!

Mega Spicy
The barbel is possibly Archie’s favourite fish, so any attractor aimed at this species had to be spot on. Apart from the usual countrywide field testers covering the Severn, Avon, Kennet, Teme, Great Ouse, plus all the Yorkshire rivers, Archie himself spent two years on the Trent with it, summer and winter. So when a string of good catches was topped by fish of 10lb 11oz, and 11lb 8oz in successive casts, plus another of 11lb 6oz just a few days later, and all from heavily pressured day ticket water, he knew it was right. Many doubles to over 14lb have followed since then.

Mega Spicy also works brilliantly for chub when frozen onto luncheon meat, and cooking the additives into hemp can drive fish into a feeding, attacking frenzy at times. Watching a rod tip being wrenched over at least a foot without a bait on the hook is quite a sight!

Quality Trent bream, generally over 4lb, showed regularly during testing even in the winter. Keen bream anglers could do worse than give this a go, but not where there’s any amount of carp. They’ll get there first every time.

Mega Spicy’s unique powder blend can be added to maggots, ground bait, meat, corn, chopped worm, boilies, hemp seed as well as any other bean, pea or seed bait.

Mega Carp
As carp are now the most popular species the market is flooded with flavours and additives designed to attract them, and to most anglers it’s very confusing. Every producer claims their product is ‘the best’.

Archie took the essential attractors from each of the known basics, i.e. meat, fish, spices, etc, plus a few known only to himself and blended them together. With such a broad spectrum of feeding triggers Mega Carp will work anywhere, with any bait. Add it to boilies, paste, groundbait, maggots, meat and sweetcorn and see the difference yourself.
