One of 3 x 30's in 20 hours! |
I don’t know about you but no sooner had it felt like summer was here then bang! It’s cold again and the leaves are falling off the trees.
Personally I love this time of the year for catching carp but also have the urgency in the back of my mind that the first of the proper bad weather isn’t far away and suddenly I find myself trying to cram in as much fishing as possible. It’s strange really as I love winter fishing but there always seems to be a particular urgency in my moves as the leaves begin to fall.
August was real kind to me and I notched up quite a few fish from Grenville in Cambridgeshire. I’d had a little bit of a frustrating start on Grenville arriving late each week-end and struggling to get in any of the swims I fancied. I soon sorted that one out though by cramming in as much work as I could earlier in the week and thus getting over there quicker. I was soon rewarded with a few prizes including a catch of 3 x 30’s to 35lb 8oz in a particularly memorable 20 hour spell which also saw a lost fish of a similar size as well as a smaller fish landed too.
A 35lb coming to the net.

New Man on Board – Simon Lowes
It is with great pleasure we welcome Simon Lowes from Sevenoaks in Kent on board as a new Quest Baits Field Tester/Consultant.
Simon was already a regular user of Quest Baits when he entered a competition in Crafty Carper magazine showing a photograph of a carp with the captor wearing a Quest Baits hat or cap.
Part of his competition win was free bait and a 12 month consultancy deal (as well as a French Fishing Holiday). The photograph that won the competition for him was a picture of a cracking 37lb 2oz mirror from a very challenging large Southern Stillwater. This certainly wasn’t a one off capture but was one where he actually remembered to leave his hat on for the picture!
Having now spoken to Simon at length we are delighted that Crafty Carper magazine chose him as the winner.
Simon comes with many years angling experience starting at the age of 10 and successfully fishing for many different species including Trout where he achieved his Trout Masters badge and went on to fish the World Wide Trout Open where he managed a very respectable 4th place on his very first time of trying, obviously a naturally gifted angler.
Carp however have always been his number one passion and despite spending several years motor bike racing at club level and mounting up numerous race wins, podium finishes and lap records the carp kept drawing him back and in 2006 he finally hung his racing leathers up in order to concentrate more time on carp fishing.

New Chilli Chocolate! |
What’s coming soon?
Following on from the amazing response and captures of the Barbel Chops we have decided to release the Chubby Chops earlier than we had intended (just awaiting the labels and packaging as I write this). The only problem we have experienced with the Chubby Chops – the Barbel love them!
Chubby Chops are very quickly digested, yellow in colour and contain a real smooth pleasant tasting cheese powder combined with a smelly cheese attractant amongst other things. To compliment these there will be the usual paste, hook bait dip and bait glug.
You may have heard whispers on the grapevine about our new ‘Chilli Chocolate’. It’s catching a lot of fish at the moment but we are struggling to secure large amounts of one of the ingredients to be able to spread it around lots of different waters so will be holding back the release until we have confirmed it works just as well at most places so more of this later.
Well, that is all for now and I will sign off as always wishing you
Best fishes
Shaun
